The EBU and Host Broadcaster RTVE are excited to confirm the 17 countries participating in the 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) in Madrid on Saturday 16 November.

Albania (RTSH), Armenia (AMPTV), Cyprus (CyBC), Estonia (ERR), France (France Televisions), Georgia (GPB), Germany (KiKA/NDR), Ireland (TG4), Italy (RAI), Malta (PBS), Netherlands (AVROTROS), North Macedonia (MKRTV), Poland (TVP), Portugal (RTP), San Marino (SMRTV), Ukraine (Suspilne) will compete alongside hosts Spain (RTVE) at the Caja Mágica venue in the Spanish capital.

Cyprus return to the competition for the first time since 2017, having previously taken part in 9 editions and hosted the Contest in 2008. 

San Marino make their return to Junior Eurovision after 9 years away and have participated in three Contests to date. 

With 17 participating countries the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will have the highest number of competing broadcasters since 2021.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest said: “It’s our pleasure to be welcoming young and talented artists from 17 countries to Madrid in November for the 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

“We’re also thrilled to be welcoming back two countries, Cyprus and San Marino, to the competition.

“It has been a long time since Spain has hosted a Eurovision event and RTVE’s excitement to be staging this year’s Contest has been infectious! We are looking forward to a wonderful week ahead of us in November.”

“LET’S BLOOM”

“Let’s Bloom” has also been revealed as the slogan and artistic theme for the 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which references the blossoming of young artists at the event.

 Ana María Bordas, Original Content Director at RTVE and Executive Producer of JESC 2024 explains the idea behind the theme: “We have thought of a concept that, taking nature as an example, influences the idea of young artists flourishing towards a future where they can be themselves and express freely in a healthy, safe and diverse way.

“The aim is to walk with them in their growth and development. In short, to help them flourish and progress, by being themselves. 

“The concept of flowers and blooming comes from nature itself, where there is so much diversity and in which everything is important, harmonious and beautiful.”

The same concept will be carried over to the “postcards”; the short videos that precede the performances of every country. Each artist will be able to combine the motto, “Let’s Bloom”, with a concept related to JESC values: Bloom in harmony, Bloom in joy, Bloom in diversity, etc. 

“FLOURISHING GARDEN”

The concept of “blooming” will be transferred to the Caja Mágica stage through organic elements. 

RTVE has designed a simple and at the same time modern set, with a central element that is groundbreaking and reminiscent of the verticality of the digital world with which young people live together: a large vertical LED screen that will dominate the stage as a core element. 

Marvin Dietmann, the artistic director for JESC 2024 explains more: “Our vision is rooted in the belief that diversity is the essence of beauty, much like a flourishing garden.

“In this creative journey, we embrace the idea that each artist, like a unique plant, contributes to the vibrant tapestry of our “garden of life”. Here everyone has their place and together we grow into diverse shapes, colours, and forms.

“We invite our audience to trust in our vision and the future of our artists, as we embark on this transformative experience together”.

Spain is staging the 22nd edition of the competition, which is open to young artists aged between 9 and 14-years-old performing new songs, 55 years after the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Madrid in 1969. 

It also coincides with the 20th anniversary of María Isabel winning the 2nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest for Spain in 2004. 
Last year’s winner was France’s Zoé Clauzure with “Coeur” (Heart), giving France their second consecutive win and its third overall – equaling the Contest record set by Georgia in 2016. 

RTVE accepted the invitation to host after Sandra Valero's second-place finish in Nice.

JESC 2024 will take place at Caja Mágica, one of the architectural landmarks of Madrid, which has the capacity to accommodate between 5,000 and 7,000 spectators. 

Ticket sales for the live show on 16 November and dress rehearsal on 15 November will go on sale on Tuesday 15 October.
