Spain to host 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest
14 February 2024The EBU and RTVE are excited to announce that the 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) will be held in Spain later this year.
Spain’s national public broadcaster RTVE will host for the first time in the competition’s history after coming 2nd in 2023’s Contest in Nice - won by France’s Zoe Clauzure singing “Coeur”.
Spain won the second edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2004.
The Host City and dates for the 2024 Contest will be announced in due course.
Martin Österdahl, the EBU’s JESC Executive Supervisor said: “20 years after their Junior Eurovision Song Contest win, we’re thrilled to finally bring the Contest to Spain. We’re grateful to RTVE for accepting to host the 22nd edition of the competition which gives young artists from across Europe an incredible platform to showcase their talent. We’re very much looking forward to the fiesta that awaits in Spain later this year!”
The rules of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest do not require the winning broadcaster to host the following year, as in the Eurovision Song Contest, but they do get first refusal should they wish to stage the next year’s competition.
France Télévisions decided to hand over the organisation of the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The EBU warmly thanks them for staging incredible shows in 2021 and 2023 following their previous two victories.
Following the decision, RTVE, who came second in 2023 with Sandra Valero’s “Loviu”, were offered the opportunity to produce the 22nd edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest later this year.
Ana María Bordas, Spain's Head of Delegation at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and JESC Steering Group Member said: "RTVE welcomes with great enthusiasm EBU's invitation for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to be held in Spain.”
She added: “For RTVE, hosting the next JESC is another step in the effort that the public broadcaster has made in recent years to promote Eurovision in Spain and give more relevance to our music.
“From now on, RTVE will work closely with the EBU and the Steering Group to organize the best JESC possible. We will employ our best creative, technical and human resources to offer a festival designed for young artists in a festive and safe environment.
We are sure that the Spanish public will also receive this announcement with great enthusiasm and will welcome the Eurovision community with open arms."
