Eurovision Young Musicians 2024: A Symphony in Bodø, Norway

Bodø, Norway, will be the stage for a celebration of young musical talents on August 17th, 2024.

As the city holds the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture this year, it is the perfect backdrop for the 21st Eurovision Young Musicians competition.

Organized by Norwegian broadcaster NRK in collaboration with the EBU, this event marks Norway's second time hosting the contest, following Bergen's successful tenure in 2000.

Eleven talented young musicians from Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Czechia, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Sweden, and Switzerland will compete for the coveted title.

These young virtuosos will perform their chosen pieces against the stunning  Bodø’s Stormen Concert Hall.

Eurovision Young Musicians is more than just a competition; it's a platform for young artists to shine on the international stage. By celebrating creativity, cultural diversity, and the universal language of music, the event aims to inspire and connect people across borders.

Belgium

Austria

• Leonhard Baumgartner (17), violin
• Henri Vieuxtemps: Violin Concerto No. 5 in A minor, 1st movement

Armenia

• Hayk Hekekyan (18), oboe
• Ludwig August Lebrun: Oboe Concerto No. 1 in D minor, 1st movement

France

• Pierre-Emmanuel Hurpeau (20), piano
• Maurice Ravel: Piano Concerto in G, 3rd movement

Sweden

• Hugo Svedberg (16), cello
• Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1 in D major, 1st movement

Poland

• Jeremi Tabęcki (19), clarinet
• Luigi Bassi: Concert Fantasia on motives from Rigoletto

Serbia

• Bogdan Dugalić (20), piano
• Sergei Rachmaninov: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini

Germany

• Fabian Egger (17), flute
• Jakob Gade / Toke Lund Christiansen: Tango Fantasia for flute and orchestra

Czechia

• Adam Znamirovský (14), piano

Meet the Jury

This year’s professional Jury,  selected by NRK, will consist of 4 professional members:

• Tabita Berglund, Conductor, Chair of the Jury, Norway
• Marianna Shirinyan, Pianist, Armenia/Denmark
• Martin Grubinger, Multi-percussionist, Austria
• Andreas Sundén, Clarinetist, Sweden

A Special Prize for the Laureate

The winner of this year’s contest will receive a special prize from the Nordland Music Festival. This prize includes an exclusive festival package featuring a solo performance with a professional orchestra, collaboration with renowned musicians, and a tailor-made educational and experience program in 2025. Additionally, the winner will receive a PR and photo package, including a promotional film with audio recording in a professional sound studio.

MORE ABOUT THE EVENT

Eurovision Young Musicians is a prestigious international competition showcasing the finest young classical musicians.

Held biennially since 1982, it offers a platform for these talented artists to launch their careers. Past winners have achieved global recognition, including renowned names like Julian Rachlin (violin), Natalie Clein (cello) and Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad (viola).

The last edition of the competition took place in 2022 in Montpellier, France, produced by  Morgane Productions for France Télévisions.

The event was hosted by the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier.

Nine EBU members participated, each sending a talented young classical musician to compete.

The competition was won by Czech violinist Daniel Matejča, who impressed the jury with his performance of Shostakovich's First Violin Concerto. As the winner, he received a significant prize: a performance opportunity at the 2023 Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier.

Other finalists who distinguished themselves included Germany's Philipp Schupelius and Norway's Alma Serafin Kraggerud, who placed second and third respectively.
