Providing EBU radio organizations with a selection of the best classical music concerts, the Euroradio Summer Festivals present a broad offer of symphony concerts, operas and chamber music festivals from across Europe and beyond, both prestigious and lesser-known.
This summer, the EBU is delighted to be able to offer 303 concerts (including 153 live) from 89 Festivals across Europe and beyond, thanks to the contribution of 32 radio organizations, from 22 countries.
Among all the major international festivals, this year’s selection includes the following notable events:
Daniel Barenboim will return to the BBC Proms with the West–Eastern Divan Orchestra, live from the Royal Albert Hall on 11 August. They’ll be joined by violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter to perform Brahms’s Violin Concerto.
A world premiere of Rameau’s lost opera ‘Samson’ will be unveiled at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, reconstructed by Claus Guth and Raphaël Pichon, and performed by Pygmalion with Jarrett Ott in the title role.
150 years to the day of Schoenberg’s birth on 13 September, a live performance of Gurre-lieder with Riccardo Chailly and the Bavarian Radio Chorus will take place at La Scala, Milan.
The return of Chopin and his Europe Festival in Poland, featuring star pianist Eric Lu as well as concerts from the KBS Symphony Orchestra.
Beninese singer Angélique Kidjo joins forces with conductor Mathieu Herzog and his Appassionato Orchestra at the Verbier Festival for an evening of African songs and French chanson.
Several celebratory Bruckner concerts for his 200th birthday, including performances of his choral works from International Wolfegg Concerts and the International Riga Sacred Music Festival, plus a performance of his Eighth Symphony from Salzburg with the Vienna Philharmonic and Riccardo Muti, and his Fourth Symphony from the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with Sir Simon Rattle at both the BBC Proms and Grafenegg.
On Ukrainian Independence Day, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra with conductor Maxim Rysanov will be joined by Ukrainian musicians to perform a live concert on 24 August from the Baltic Sea Festival. The concert ‘Focus on Ukraine’ will premiere a new work by Leonid Desyatnikov, and also feature works by Silvestrov, Golijov, Mozart and Bacewicz.
