The Euroradio Jazz Competiton (EJC) event encourages and promotes young jazz musicians and ensembles through broadcasts by EBU Members and gives them the possibility to perform on stage at international festivals, thus bringing them to the attention of a wide audience of enthusiastic listeners on the spot and on the airwaves.
The ensemble receives a financial prize of €3,000.
The musician receives a financial prize of €1,000.
Congratulations to the winners! The Finals took place during the Jazz in Marciac Festival on 22 July. The recordings of the finals as well as the winners' performance are available in MUS under reference JM/2024/07/09/01-04. Other finalists of the 2024 edition were the Ida Alanen Trio (Yle/Finland), Kira Linn & Linntett (WDR/Germany) and 21st Century Quintet (LRT/Lithuania), who unfortunately had to withdraw, due to exceptional circumstances.
The Finals Jury was composed of Thomas Loewner (Deutschlandradio), Roch Sicinski (Polish Radio) Pilar Subirà (Catalunya Música), Jean-Marie Durand (Jazz in Marciac) and Jowee Omicil.
EBU Members submit recordings from the two previous years by one ensemble of no more than five musicians, with the average age of the musicians not to exceed 30. The semi-finals are made up of 2 rounds, phases One and Two, during which an EBU Jury selects the 4 finalists.
Each of the 4 finalist ensembles then competes during a public set for the Euroradio Jazz Competition Grand Prix, awarded by a Grand Jury made up of professionals of the music sector and EBU radio organization representatives. The Grand Jury also designates one of the performers as Soloist of the Year. Once again this year, the EJC will take place during Jazz in Marciac and will be hosted by Radio France/France Musique, in collaboration with the festival.
Getting onboard the very best elements of each country's young jazz scene and gender balance constitute high priorities for the EJC.
